Karen Lovelace, DVM, CVMA
Dr. Karen Lovelace graduated with high honors from Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2004. After graduation, she practiced at Alamo Feline Health Center, a feline-only hospital in San Antonio, Texas, where she gained extensive experience in soft tissue surgery, internal medicine, and feline behavior. Following her love of feline-only practice, Dr. Lovelace then moved to Southern California to work at The Cat Doctor of Thousand Oaks and Ventura, before joining us in December 2012 at Taunton Cat Hospital.
Dr. Lovelace enjoys staying up to date on feline continuing education, as well as contributing to continuing education through writing and editing. She has published her writing in a popular clinical textbook on feline medicine. She has also contributed original work to the Journal of Veterinary Toxicologic Pathology, and has written several chapters for a new feline-only veterinary technician reference book. In addition to these contributions, Dr. Lovelace has special interests in small animal behavior, diagnostic medicine, surgery, wellness/quality of life, senior care, and pain management. She is also certified in small animal veterinary acupuncture.
Dr. Lovelace currently lives in Rhode Island. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, camping, cooking, gardening, reading, volunteering, and of course playing with her cats! Her volunteer work has included spay/neuter for feline-only clinics as well as serving on the Feline Welfare Committee for the American Association of Feline Practitioners (AAFP), where she has helped in developing their practice guidelines for veterinarians on issues related to feline welfare.
